Best repair day I've had in months happened on a Tuesday

I was dreading fixing this old Sony TV from 2012 that kept shutting off after 10 minutes, figured it was a dead mainboard. Turns out it was just two swollen caps near the power supply that I swapped in 15 minutes for under $2. Has anyone else had a repair that looked way worse than it actually was?

Read somewhere that like 90% of capacitor failures are just bad electrolytic caps near heat sources. Your 2012 Sony is right in that sweet spot where they start drying out. Had a similar situation with a Samsung monitor that would flicker after 20 minutes, replaced four caps and it was good as new. Always worth checking the cheap stuff before assuming a board is toast.

cmon @joseph932 you got lucky but most times those caps are just a symptom not the real problem.

Ha yeah it's wild how often we assume the worst when the fix is something simple. Kinda reminds me how people think their whole day is ruined over one bad thing but really it's just one small part that needs tweaking.
