Am I the only one who just found out about using a hot air pencil for tiny SMD work?

Last week I was trying to replace a 0201 resistor on a phone board and my regular station was just too big... the pencil got it done in like 30 seconds without touching the other parts. What's your go-to tool for those microscopic jobs?

Oh man, my buddy fried a whole board before he tried one of those!

That "fried a whole board" thing is the real fear. I started putting a little square of kapton tape over any nearby plastic connectors or ports. The heat shield is cheap, and it stops you from melting something you didn't even mean to touch.
