A client pointed out my solder joints looked like spider webs

I was fixing a vintage radio for a guy in Portland last month, and he said my solder work looked messy and could cause cold joints later. I mean, I thought my joints were fine, but he was right when I looked closer. Now I spend an extra minute cleaning my iron tip and using more flux before each joint. Has anyone else had a client give them a tip that actually improved their work?

Yeah, a fresh look helps a lot.

My buddy who fixes old arcade boards had a client straight up refuse to pay once. The guy said the solder blobs were so big they looked like tiny mushrooms. It was a real wake up call for him. He started using way less solder per joint and his work got way cleaner. Sometimes you just need that outside eye to see the obvious flaw.

Read a post once where a guy said clean flux is the real secret to smooth joints.
