Working on a 1920s house in St. Louis and found the original knob and tube still active in the attic.

The homeowner had no idea it was still live and powering half the upstairs lights. Anyone else run into this and have a good way to explain the urgency to replace it?

I used to think it was fine, but "still active" means it's a fire waiting to happen.

Ugh, that reminds me of my old laptop battery.

Man, my old laptop battery swelled up so bad it looked like a pillow. Cameron963 is right about the fire risk, mine actually started hissing at me once. Had to pry the thing out with a butter knife before it went full firework.
