Unpopular opinion: Sharing tools with relatives makes sense

I always have extra basic tools like testers and pliers. When my niece had a buzzing light, I lent her my gear. We found a loose fixture connection and tightened it. Now she feels okay checking simple things herself.

Lending my voltage tester taught her to always cut power first.

But is a buzzing light really that big of a deal? Sometimes a loose wire is just a quick fix, but other times it points to a bigger wiring problem a beginner could miss. What if your niece messed with the wrong thing and caused a short? Or worse, what if that loose connection was a symptom of faulty wiring that could start a fire? Handing over tools feels helpful, but it also passes on the risk if the person doesn't fully know what they're doing. A simple buzz could hide a serious issue.

Usually just a loose neutral wire, not a fire.
