Shoutout to the old timer who told me to stop using push connectors on 12 gauge wire

I was working in a new build in Phoenix and this retired electrician saw me using Wagos on some 12 gauge lighting circuits. He straight up said "kid those are gonna fail on you with the heat we get out here." I thought he was just being old school but sure enough 6 months later I got a callback on that same job. Three connections had gone bad and were arcing inside the box. Now I only use screw terminals on anything 12 gauge and above. Anyone else had push connectors fail under heavy load?

Hate to hear that happened to you but glad it wasn't worse. I've seen the same thing in crawl spaces here where it gets humid as hell. Those push connectors just don't hold up once the wires start expanding and contracting with temperature swings. I switched to screw terminals for anything 12 gauge after finding two melted connections in a buddies house.
