Property manager here: Caught between a landlord and code compliance on knob and tube
I manage a few older buildings, and one has original knob and tube wiring. The owner doesn't want to pay for a full rewire, saying it's been fine for decades. But I know it's a fire risk and not up to modern codes. Tenants are complaining about flickering lights. I suggested an inspection, but the owner is pushing back. How do you electricians handle clients who resist necessary upgrades? Is there a middle ground?

Are you serious that the owner is pushing back even with the lights flickering? That is not just some small issue, that's the wiring literally crying for help. I would be shocked if any real inspection passed that system today. The middle ground vanished when the tenants started complaining about actual problems. You have to push harder because that fire risk is very real.

Hate seeing landlords cut corners on safety like that. It's a tough position, especially with tenant complaints. Really hope you can push for an inspection or something.
