Appreciation post: a plumber in Toledo told me his crew always uses a torque wrench on gas line fittings now

We were both on a big remodel job and he said they had a call back for a small leak that cost them a full day's work. He said the boss bought three torque wrenches after that and made it a rule. It got me thinking about how we handle aluminum terminations or even just standard lugs. Do you guys use torque screwdrivers or wrenches on panel work, or is it still mostly by feel?

Forget torque, we need a standard for how clean the threads are first.

Used to think clean threads were optional until I saw a torque wrench readout on a muddy bolt. The numbers were all over the place, completely useless. Now I check every thread before I touch my torque wrench.

Read a study showing proper torque prevents most connection failures.
