Rant: The lady who counted my 12 items like I was a criminal
This woman at the 12-items-or-less lane in Portland last week literally pointed at every single thing I put on the belt and counted out loud, then glared at me with 14 because of some avocados. Has anyone else had a cashier totally go overboard policing those limits?

Hold up though - I have to say something about the avocado thing. Avocados are technically a single item if they're loose and not packaged together, but most stores count each piece of fruit individually. So that's actually 12 items plus 2 avocados equals 14, not just "some avocados" being extra. I only know this because I used to get SO annoyed when cashiers would let someone with 20 things slide through, and then I realized the rule is usually "number of items" not "number of types of things." Not defending the counting-out-loud thing though, that's just rude and weird. She could have just said "hey heads up you've got a couple extra" instead of making you feel like a criminal.

Twelve items is already pushing the 10-item limit though, it's not like this was some random overreaction to a normal transaction.
