Had to pick between paper or plastic at checkout and went with a third weird option
So I'm at the Publix on 4th street yesterday and the bagger asks me paper or plastic. I freeze up like an idiot because I have like 3 bags of chips, a gallon of milk, and a frozen pizza. The guy behind me sighs loud enough to hear. I panicked and said uh neither and just started shoving everything into my jacket pockets. My keys punched a hole in the chip bag and the milk got warm before I walked 2 blocks home with it wedged under my arm. The freezer pizza slid down my pant leg and left a cold trail on my thigh. The cashier laughed at me and the bagger just stared. Has anyone else tried a dumb grocery escape like that?

I mean it's just grocery bags, not like you were choosing between two different life paths or something. People get so dramatic about the weirdest stuff. Like the guy sighing behind you probably has never had to make an actual hard decision in his life. You could have just said paper and moved on with your day instead of turning it into a whole performance piece with your jacket pockets and a frozen pizza sliding down your leg. That cashier and bagger are probably still telling this story though, so at least you're memorable.

Oh man, I've done something similar. Last month I had a loaf of bread, a six-pack of soda, and a bag of oranges and I told the bagger "don't worry about it" and tried to carry everything like a weirdo. The soda slipped and rolled under the car next to me, the oranges went everywhere, and the bread got squished into a flat pancake. @maryh96 is right though, the cashier and bagger definitely still tell that story, and honestly I still get embarrassed thinking about it. At least your frozen pizza made a cold trail - that's kind of hilarious to picture.
