Can we talk about the self checkout that just randomly cancels your order?
Was at the Kroger on Oak Street last night buying about $40 worth of stuff. Got to the self checkout, scanned everything, went to pay. Then the screen just flashes "order cancelled" and goes back to the home screen. No warning, no error message, nothing. Had to call the one employee over and she just shrugged and said "yeah it does that sometimes." Then I had to rescan every single item. Anyone else have a machine just dump your whole cart for no reason?

My buddy had the same thing happen at Walmart last week and just walked out.

You mentioned your buddy walking out, and that's the part that gets me. I read somewhere that more stores are letting people go without calling security because it's actually cheaper than dealing with the hassle. Maybe your friend knew that too, @matthew864, because it seems like employees are trained not to chase anyone anymore.

Oh boy, that reminds me of something that happened to my daughter last month. She was at the grocery store and realized at the checkout that she forgot to scan a box of crackers that was sitting in the bottom of her cart. Instead of making a big deal, she just handed it to the cashier and asked if she could pay for it there. The cashier looked at her like she had three heads and said "don't worry about it, just take it." My daughter was so confused, she stood there for a minute trying to explain she wanted to pay, but the cashier just waved her off. So I guess walking out is becoming the new normal, which feels odd to me but I guess that's where we're at now.
