Almost got tackled in the self-checkout for something I didn't do
At the Stop & Shop on Broadway last night around 10pm. I'm scanning my stuff, normal routine. This lady two machines down hits the call button because her wine bottle won't scan. The one employee comes over, helps her, walks away. Then her machine starts beeping like crazy. She looks at me and yells "YOU set that off!" I didn't touch anything. The employee comes back and sees her screaming at me, asks what happened. She points at me and says I "hacked" her machine. I just finished paying and left. Has anyone else had someone randomly blame them for a self-checkout error?

Tbh that whole "hacked" accusation is wild. I actually just saw a thing online about how self-checkout machines can glitch out if someone's phone is nearby or if the scanner gets a weird reflection off something. But like, her blaming you for it is just crazy. Ngl it sounds like she was already having a bad night and needed someone to yell at. Honestly I'm glad you just paid and left, that's the smartest move in those situations.

That "hacked" accusation is hilarious - my buddy had a lady accuse him of stealing her cart once.

Man every time I use self-checkout I'm half expecting someone to accuse me of something. Last week the machine kept yelling at me for "unexpected item in bagging area" and I swear I looked around hoping nobody thought I was running some kind of self-checkout crime ring. Your story is way better though at least nobody yelled at me.
