A cashier at the Piggly Wiggly in Opelika told me 'you don't need that' and she was right

You don't need that" sounds like something my grandma would say at the grocery store. But what if the cashier was actually looking out for you in a way we don't talk about? Like what if she saw you buying a bunch of prepackaged stuff and knew you were just stress shopping after a long day. Maybe she noticed you had three bags of chips and two frozen pizzas and a gallon of ice cream. Sometimes a stranger can spot a bad habit forming before you even see it yourself.

That's a really good point about the stress shopping part. A lot of us load up the cart without thinking, just trying to fill a void or get through a hard day. That cashier might have seen a pattern in customers over the years, the same folks buying the same junk week after week. Maybe she was just trying to be a small kindness, a little nudge before it becomes a rut you can't get out of. It takes a certain nerve to call someone out like that, but sometimes a gentle truth is exactly what you need.
