My little cousin's first attempt at hanging board made me see our past arguments differently.

Oh man, that hits home. Watching my nephew struggle to build a basic shelf last year totally reframed a bunch of my old pointless fights with my brother. Seeing the kid try so hard and still get it kinda wrong made me realize we were all just fumbling through stuff back then. It's funny how a simple DIY fail can make you drop old grudges you forgot you were even holding.

My uncle still owes my dad five grand from a bad business deal in 2003. Seeing my cousin mess up his taxes last year didn't make that debt disappear. Understanding why someone struggles is one thing, but it doesn't erase real wrongs. Some grudges are just the record of what actually happened.

Comparing a botched shelf to five thousand dollars is wild. My uncle's tax mess just proves the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. Forgiving a wobbly bookshelf is free, but that debt still has real zeros attached. Maybe Joel can build my dad a shelf worth five grand to settle up.
