I used to backroll every coat of mud until a foreman in Des Moines showed me why that was wasting time

The first time a guy showed me the backroll trick I thought he was nuts lol. But honestly once I switched to just using a 6 inch knife and going straight after the first pass it saved me like 20 minutes per room. The key is getting your mud consistency right so it doesnt sag or leave ridges. I found that if you're taking the time to backroll you're probably going too thick in the first place. A lighter coat that you knock down flat with a wider knife works way better for me.

Wait, you're telling me there's people out there who actually backroll every room? Ngl I thought I was the only one who ditched that step early on. Honestly abby_robinson58 you nailed it with the mud consistency thing. I used to fight with ridges so bad until I realized a thinner mix and a 10 inch knife did the job way cleaner. Tbh once you get the feel for a lighter coat you never look back. Saves so much time and frustration.
