Why does everyone run their dredge pump at full throttle?
I was working a job near Baton Rouge last month and watched three different operators burn through cutterhead teeth way faster than needed. They all had the pump screaming at full RPM even when the material was just soft mud and sand. I mean, I get it for hard clay or rock, but for that job I dropped to 75% throttle and still moved 220 yards an hour without tearing stuff up. Has anyone else noticed this habit or am I just being picky?

Wait... you're telling me you actually saw three guys running full throttle in just soft mud and sand? That's wild... I mean, I've seen some guys do it out of habit, but three in one month right by Baton Rouge? That sounds like a whole crew that never got the memo. @christopher713 is spot on, I dropped to around 65-70% once in soft stuff and still pushed 200 yards without any wear issues. Those guys probably burned through a set of teeth in like a week instead of a month, all for no reason... it's like they think louder means more production or something.
