That guy at the parts counter said bigger pumps are always better. I think he's wrong.
I was at the Grainger in Port Arthur last week picking up a seal kit and this older operator starts going on about how a 12 inch pump beats a 10 inch every time. But I run a 10 inch on a 200 foot run of 8 inch pipe and I get better velocity and less plugging than a bigger pump would. Some jobs need the extra flow but for my setup in the Sabine River backwaters, smaller has worked better for 4 years now. Anyone else running a smaller pump on purpose and getting better results?

Right there with you, that 12 inch would just turn my line into a lazy river.

Wait, are you saying a 12 inch pipe actually makes your line slower even when the pressure is high? I always figured bigger pipe meant less restriction, like on my setup at home. Have you tested it against a smaller diameter to see how much it really changes flow?
