Just had a suction hose blowout on the old 8-inch cutterhead near the bend in the river last Thursday.

We were pulling a heavy clay load when the reinforced section just behind the main coupling split, and I had to shut everything down and wrestle the spare line on in the rain for about three hours, so what's the best way you guys check for wear on those older rubber hoses before they let go?

Sounds like a total nightmare, man. I mean, it makes me think about how everything seems to be built to fail right after the warranty ends these days. You get used to stuff just working until it doesn't, and then you're stuck fixing it in the worst conditions. Maybe it's just me, but I've started checking things way more often now, even if they look fine. It's like you have to expect things to break at the worst possible time.

You wrestled with that in the rain for three hours?
