Hot take: Dredging that little creek behind my house was the biggest waste of $800 I ever spent

I figured I could clear out a 50 foot stretch of Mud Creek behind my place to stop the flooding every spring, so I rented a small dredge for a weekend. Turns out the creek is mostly rocks and old tires, and I only got through maybe 10 feet before the pump clogged and I gave up. Anyone else tried a backyard dredge job that went sideways?

My buddy Kyle tried the same thing on his ditch last summer. Spent $700 and all he got was a broken pump and a lot of mud in his hair.

That "mud in his hair" part got me. I read somewhere that ditch pumps clog way easier than people think, especially with silty soil. Maybe Kyle needed a different setup, but $700 for a headache sounds about right.

Oh man, that sounds rough! You put in the effort and the creek basically laughed at you. Props for trying though, sometimes these projects just don't work out the way you picture them.
