Had a tourist in Savannah ask if we were digging for dinosaur bones
We were running a 10-inch cutterhead on a channel job near the riverwalk last spring. A guy with a big camera leaned over the fence and yelled, 'Find any T-Rex teeth yet?' I told him we mostly find old bottles and river mud. He looked so disappointed and said, 'But the machine looks like something from Jurassic Park!' It was a long day, but that gave the whole crew a good laugh. Anyone else ever get some really wild guesses about what you're doing out there?

It's like people have a few default stories in their head for any big hole in the ground (treasure, dinosaurs, secret tunnels). You see it with construction too, where folks assume you're building a specific store they want instead of just fixing a pipe. The guess says more about what they hope to find than what's actually going on.

My crew in Atlanta gets asked if we're digging a subway line at least once a week lol.
