Can we talk about how we used to handle the suction line on a 12-inch cutterhead?

For ten years, I'd just let the deck crew wrestle with those heavy rubber sections, fighting to get a seal every single shift change. Then I saw a guy on a project near Mobile using quick-connect flanges with a gasket kit, and we cut our setup time by half the next day. Who else has a small change that saved a ton of time on the water?

That Mobile trick sounds good, but honestly, how much time are we really saving? I mean, you still gotta bolt the flanges and check the gasket. On my last job, the boss bought these fancy clamps that were supposed to be faster. We spent more time looking for the special wrench than we ever saved. Sometimes the old way is just fine.

Ever see a guy try to use one of those quick-connect fittings on a hydraulic line? My buddy did, @the_tyler, and it was a mess. He saved maybe two minutes not threading the hose, but then the o-ring blew out after a week and soaked a whole panel. He spent half a day cleaning up fluid and replacing parts. That fancy shortcut cost way more time than the old, slow way of just doing it right. Boss was pissed about the downtime and the mess.
