Update: I switched from a 0.5mm to a 0.3mm mechanical pencil for my detail work

The thinner lead forced me to be more precise and my shop drawings for a recent hospital project in Tacoma looked way cleaner. Anyone else find a small tool change made a big difference in their output?

Oh totally. I read an article once that called this the "constraint leads to creativity" thing. When your tool gives you a thinner line, you can't just scribble or shade loosely to cover a mistake. It forces cleaner line work from the start because every mark is so clear. It's not just about being neat, it makes you think ahead about where each line needs to go before the lead even touches the paper. Have you noticed your planning process changing too, or is it mostly in the hand work?

Nice. That's a huge jump down in lead size. Did you have to change your whole hand pressure or just your focus? I'm wondering if the thinner line makes you slow down and plan each mark more, or if it's purely about the physical line being less forgiving.

Sounds like you traded a pencil for a scalpel. Hope the hospital project appreciates the surgical precision.
