That one week in February 2019 where everything went wrong on the same job

I was doing a full set of MEP drawings for a 12-story condo in Portland. The architect kept changing the ceiling heights on me every day, and by Thursday I had to redo all the ductwork and plumbing risers from scratch. Lost about 20 hours of work that week. Has anyone else had a project where the architect just could not make up their mind?

That 20 hours thing hits hard. Had a similar mess back in 2017 where the architect changed the window layout on a four-story office building three times after we already had the ductwork routed. Ended up scrapping two full days of work because they decided they wanted "more natural light" but couldn't pick which walls. Those kind of weeks make you want to bill by the hour instead of the project.

Read somewhere that 70% of MEP rework comes from architects changing their minds like that.
