Spent an hour on a simple layer state in AutoCAD

I was updating a title block for a client and the layer wouldn't stay frozen in the viewport. It kept resetting every time I saved. The fix was a single system variable, VPLAYEROVERRIDESMODE, set to 0. Anyone else get tripped up by that one recently?

Classic AutoCAD, hiding the answer in a system variable. Bet you could have drawn the whole title block again in that hour.

That hour is how you learn which system variable to check next time though.
