Realized my dimensioning shorthand was the reason for that $4k rework last month

I was sitting in traffic on I-35 staring at a billboard and it hit me that my 0.5mm tolerance note could've been read as 0.05mm by the fabricator, so I started adding 'MAX' in bold to every critical callout, has anyone else had a spec interpretation nightmare like that?

Whoa hold on, that's a big jump there. Adding MAX is smart, but the real issue is you likely didn't put a clear note about the datum reference or which surface that tolerance applied to. A dimension line is only half the story, the other half is the frame around it. If you just slap 0.5 MAX, the guy reading it still has to guess if that's from the hole centerline or the edge. You gotta spell out the whole callout with the GD&T symbols, not just the number. Otherwise, next time they'll read it right but measure it from the wrong spot and you'll still get a shiny bill.
