Realized I was using my scale ruler backwards for 2 years

Was laying out a floor plan at 1/4 inch scale last Tuesday. Kept getting dimensions that were way off. My senior drafter glanced over and laughed. Said I'd been reading from the wrong end the whole time. Anyone else find out they'd been doing some basic tool wrong forever?

22 years seems like a long time, but is it really that big of a deal? You got dimensions that were off, but you caught it before anything was built. Nobody died, the building won't fall down, so maybe just laugh it off and move on.

and look man I get what you're saying but 22 years is actually kinda wild for something this basic. I've been drafting for about 8 years now and I still catch myself making dumb mistakes like grabbing the wrong scale or forgetting to zero my tape measure. But reading the ruler backwards for that long? That's a whole other level of muscle memory you gotta unlearn. My advice is to put a little piece of tape on the side of your scale that says "read this end" or something. Also when you're laying out a plan double check your first few measurements against a known reference like a door width that should be 36 inches. That way you catch it before you get too deep into the drawing. It's embarrassing but honestly it's better to find out now than keep making the same mistake forever.
