My old drafting table lamp died in the middle of a big set of foundation plans
It happened last Thursday night around 10 PM. I was finishing up the last sheet for a client in Austin, and the lamp just flickered out. No warning. It was a cheap halogen thing I'd had for years, and the bulb socket was completely fried. I had to finish the job under the awful overhead light in my garage, which gave me a massive headache and made me second-guess every line weight. I ended up re-checking the whole set the next morning and found three minor dimension errors I'd missed. Threw the old lamp in the trash and ordered a new LED architect lamp for about $120. It's brighter and doesn't get hot. What do you guys use for lighting on late nights? I need something that won't quit on me again.

A 10 PM lamp failure is brutal. I've been there with a dead fluorescent strip at 2 AM on a Friday night and it messes with your whole workflow. @parker_brown59 is right about having a backup, but I'd go one step further. Buy two of the same model so the bulbs are interchangeable and you don't have to think about compatibility when one dies. I grabbed a $60 LED drafting lamp from a local office supply store last year and it's been solid, plus the light is a lot more even than those hot halogens.
