Layer naming system that finally stuck after 8 drafts

I kept losing track of which layer held the foundation plan versus the framing details on a 40 sheet set for a church renovation in Tulsa, so I switched to a numbering prefix with the sheet code and a color tag on every layer. It took about 2 hours to reorganize the whole file, but now I can find anything in under 10 seconds even when the client asks for a random wall section change. Has anyone else built a naming convention that actually works across multiple projects, or do you just rely on the layer filter every time?

Feeling your pain on that one. I've been through the same mess with our multifamily projects, and honestly, the color tag trick is what saved my sanity too. It's funny how something that simple makes such a huge difference when you're buried in a big set. I still use filters for quick stuff, but having that visual cue on the layer list just makes everything click faster. Did you find it took a while for your team to get used to the new system, or did they pick it up quick?
