Had a talk with an old hand at the shop that changed how I look at layers
I was complaining about a messy section where my lines wouldn't match up, and he said 'you're fighting the paper, not the line.' He showed me how to back off on the thickness for the base layer... made the whole thing come together on a 500-square-foot floor plan.
