DAE think 3D models make hand drafting obsolete now?

I was at the local trade show last weekend and saw a booth showing off old blueprints next to a full CAD setup. Half the guys there said hand drafting is still faster for quick concepts, but the other half swear by digital only. Where do you draw the line between keeping the old skills and going full digital?

Digital for final work, hand for the rough ideas - that first pass where you're just throwing shapes down is way faster with a pencil. Once you know what you want, then switch to the software to clean it up and make it precise.

Well I'll be... hand drafting's not dead yet, I guess. For me it's always been a mix, when I'm sketching out a quick layout for something like a custom shelf I'm building at home, pencil and paper just flows faster than fighting with a mouse. But if I'm working on something that needs exact measurements or has to fit with other parts, I'll jump into the 3D model to catch all those little fitment issues before I cut any wood. That first rough sketch saves me time though... I can get three bad ideas out in the time it takes to open the software and set up a single viewport.

Yeah @amyh21 it's like how people still use paper grocery lists over phone notes, old habits just stick.
