Sanded my workbench flat for the first time in 7 years - hit exactly 253 swirl marks before I stopped counting

I inherited this old bench from my dad and never really took care of the top. Spent last Sunday with a belt sander and 80 grit, just going at it. Halfway through I started counting the little circular scratches from previous projects, and I got to 253 before I lost track. I was surprised how much smoother it feels now - like a completely different surface for clamping things down. Has anyone else ever actually counted the damage on their bench top before fixing it?

253 marks before you lost track. Honestly, did you notice any of those were from specific projects you remember, or was it just a random collection of scratches that blended together over time? I'm curious if counting them made you realize how much wear and tear a top actually takes, or if you were just bored out of your mind by the 150 mark. Ngl, I've been tempted to do the same with my old bench, but I figure I'd give up around 50 and just start sanding anyway.

253 swirl marks seems like a lot of work for a workbench that just gets beat up again.
