Rant: That YouTube guy saying to use plywood for a workbench top is dead wrong

I was at the Habitat ReStore in Portland last month and grabbed a solid-core door for $15, it's been flat as a board for 6 months with zero sag and I can screw into it anywhere without worrying about delamination, so has anyone else ditched plywood for an old door?

Hold on, are you me? I was so set on a 3/4" birch plywood top for my first garage bench. Spent weeks reading about it. Then I snagged a beat-up hollow core door (like, for a closet) from a neighbor's curb cleanup, just to hold tools temporarily. That was two years ago. It's still dead flat, I've screwed a heavy vise into it, and it's taken way more abuse than any plywood I've ever owned. You might have just converted me, seriously.

$15 for a solid core door is a steal, good find.
