Pro tip: stop using regular screws in your workbench top if you swap tools a lot

I spent a whole year with a drill press and a bench vise bolted to my workbench using those basic drywall screws from the hardware store. Every time I needed to move a tool to a different spot, the heads stripped out or the screws snapped off. Last week I finally switched to T-nuts and machine bolts after my neighbor watched me curse at a stripped hole for 10 minutes. Has anyone else dealt with the struggle of constantly repositioning bench tools?

Man I feel your pain. I went through THREE different sets of lag bolts trying to hold down my bench grinder before I gave up. The drywall screws just spun out every time I needed to shift positions. T-nuts are a GAME CHANGER, I use them for EVERYTHING now including my bench vise and even my little benchtop sander. Never going back to those junk screws again, they are COMPLETELY useless for anything that gets moved around.

T-nuts changed everything for me too. Picked up a kit at the local hardware store for like 12 bucks. Drilled holes, hammered them in from the bottom, used 1/4-20 machine bolts. Now I can swap my vise and drill press in about 5 minutes with a socket wrench. No stripped holes, no broken screws, just solid hold every time.
