Nearly tossed my drill press off the bench after a bad week of wood movement

Last Tuesday I had a cherry board warp like 3/16" after I flattened it for a router sled jig. Then on Friday I cracked a tenon on a mortise I'd already cut twice because my workbench top has a 1/4" sag in the middle. I finally threw a couple of 2x4s under the sagging spot and shimmed it level with cedar shakes in about 20 minutes. Has anyone else dealt with a bench that dips in the middle and found a quick fix that didn't involve rebuilding the whole thing?

Is it really a 1/4 inch sag though? I mean you measured it with a straightedge or just eyeballed it? That seems like a lot for a workbench. My bench has some dip too but I just live with it. If you're building furniture that exact you might be overthinking it. A shim works fine for a day but wood moves so you'll be chasing that dip forever. Maybe just build a new top if it bugs you that much. Cedar shakes under a bench is a hack not a fix.

That "shimmed it level" is my move. Cedar shake pack of 25, done.
