My bench vise was backwards for 8 years, an old carpenter clued me in
I had my bench vise mounted so the jaws sat flush with the front edge of the workbench, figured that was normal. Last month an old carpenter in Cincinnati watched me clamp a board and just laughed, said flip it so the back jaw hangs over the edge by an inch. I did that and suddenly long boards don't hit the bench top when I drill, and I can hammer straight down without the handle smacking my hip. Honestly, I felt like an idiot for a decade of bending over and fighting gravity. Anyone else mount a tool backwards and only catch it when a stranger calls it out?
