I finally fixed my sagging shelf with a free pallet from behind the grocery store

Last month my plywood shelf in the garage started dipping in the middle, bad enough that my drill case kept sliding off. I grabbed two 2x4s from a busted pallet behind the Save Mart on 5th and screwed them underneath as a center support rail. Cost me exactly zero dollars and about 40 minutes, plus the shelf holds way more now. Anyone else salvage pallet wood for workbench fixes or is that just a cheapo habit I picked up?

Hell yeah, "zero dollars and about 40 minutes" is my kind of math. I did the exact same thing with a pallet behind the local hardware store a couple years back when my workbench legs got wobbly. Cut two pieces to brace the corners and it's still solid as a rock today. Pallet wood gets a bad rap for being rough, but for shop stuff it's perfect. Once you start seeing those things as free lumber, you never look at them the same way. It's not cheap, it's just smart.
