Tried using toothpaste to fix a cracked phone screen... didn't go as planned

So last week my phone slipped off my nightstand and got a tiny hairline crack in the corner. Read online that whitening toothpaste could fill it in temporarily. Rubbed some in for like 2 minutes and it actually looked worse, made the crack all cloudy and attracted dust. Ended up having to pay $150 for a screen replacement at a shop in Austin anyway. Has anyone else fallen for one of those weird DIY hacks that backfired?

$150 is cheap actually you shoulda just bought a tube of real screen filler like LocA Glue for 8 bucks and watched a youtube vid.

Wait, are we really pretending like time and frustration have zero value? Look, I get that you can fix a screen yourself for cheap, but most people don't have the patience or steady hands for that kind of job. One wrong move and you're buying a brand new phone anyway, so that 8 bucks turns into a few hundred real quick. Plus not everyone wants to spend their Saturday watching youtube vids and praying they don't mess up their daily driver. Sometimes paying a pro $150 is just paying for peace of mind and not having to deal with the headache.
