Spent $11 on a plastic spudger kit after a $0 butter knife scratched my screen, wish I'd done it sooner
Last Saturday I was swapping the battery in my son's old iPhone 8 and got impatient, so I used a butter knife from the kitchen drawer to pry the screen up. The screen popped off fine but I put a deep scratch right across the bottom corner and nicked the edge of the LCD, which means a $25 battery job turned into a $60 screen order too. My wife had been telling me for a while to just buy a real tool set, so I finally grabbed an $11 kit off Amazon with plastic spudgers, a suction cup, and those little triangle pries. Used it on my daughter's cracked screen last night and the whole thing came off clean in about 4 minutes with zero damage. I know this sounds like a no brainer to everyone here but I was being stubborn for no good reason. Anyone have a tool they put off buying for way too long and then kicked themselves after?

Man I felt this in my soul. For years I told myself the cheap way was fine and that real tools were just a waste of money for someone who only fixes stuff now and then. Then I stripped a tiny screw on a laptop back panel and spent two hours with a rubber band and a prayer trying to get it out, and I finally caved and bought a $15 precision driver set. Turns out those cheap tools were costing me way more in messed up parts than the good ones ever would have. Now I buy the right tool the first time and I kick myself for all the stuff I broke being stubborn.
