Shoutout to the repair shop in Tacoma that fixed my old radio for free

I was dropping off a package there yesterday and saw the owner, an older guy named Carl, fixing a vintage transistor radio for a customer. He didn't charge a dime, just showed the guy how to clean the volume pot with some contact cleaner and a cotton swab. He said he keeps a can of DeoxIT D5 behind the counter just for that. It took him maybe ten minutes, but the radio worked perfectly after. It made me think how many simple fixes we could do ourselves if someone just showed us the first step. Has anyone else had a local shop teach them a quick fix like that?

Wait, he just had a can of DeoxIT D5 sitting there? That stuff is like liquid gold. I had to hunt for it online and pay twenty bucks for a tiny spray can. For a shop to just use it on a free fix is wild. Most places would charge a bench fee just to look at it.

Yeah, a buddy of mine had a shop guy show him how to clean a sticky power window switch with just a pencil eraser, @maryh96 (saved him a whole switch replacement).
