Replaced my laptop fan with a $12 part, why didn't I try this sooner
I have a 2019 Dell Inspiron that sounded like a jet engine every time I opened more than 5 tabs. The local repair shop quoted me $85 for a fan swap, which felt steep for a laptop that's only worth $250 now. Last month I watched a 10 minute teardown video and ordered the replacement fan off eBay for $12 including shipping. The hardest part was prying off the bottom cover without snapping the clips, but a guitar pick did the trick. After about 45 minutes, it boots silent and runs cooler than it did when it was new. Has anyone else tried fixing an overheating laptop this way instead of paying for shop labor?
