My old laptop hinge was so stiff it would snap shut, but a drop of oil fixed it
I mean, I was about to give up on my 2015 ThinkPad because the screen would slam down. I saw a post from someone in Toronto who said to use a tiny bit of sewing machine oil on the hinge pin. I put one drop on each side with a toothpick, worked it back and forth, and it's been smooth for months now. Has anyone else tried this with a different kind of oil?

Sewing machine oil is thin and made for moving parts, so it works great. I've used a drop of 3-in-1 oil on a door hinge for a laptop before, same idea. Just avoid anything thick like WD-40 because it can gunk up over time. The trick is using a tiny amount so it doesn't drip onto the screen.
