My kid's tablet screen went black after a drop, but the touch still worked

It happened in our kitchen, and I had a spare screen from fixing my own phone a while back. I followed a guide online, got it open with a heat gun and a plastic pick, and swapped the screen in about an hour. Has anyone else had a device where the touch works but the display is dead, and was it worth fixing yourself?

Been there, that black screen with working touch is such a weird feeling. Good on you for the fix, and @olivia_carr7 makes a great point about the adhesive being the real test.

My last screen swap ended with more adhesive on my fingers than the tablet.

Just pre-warm the new adhesive strip with a hair dryer first, makes it way less messy.

That's a solid fix, nice work. Did you run into any issues with the adhesive when you were putting the new screen on? In my experience, getting that seal right without special tape can be the trickiest part for a DIY job.
