My brother swore I could fix a cracked laptop screen with a heat gun
Tried it on my old Dell after he insisted it would "reseal the layers" and now I have a melted bezel and a screen that looks like a lava lamp. Has anyone else gotten bad advice from a well-meaning family member that actually made things worse?

Oh man, "reseal the layers" - that got me. I had a buddy swear putting a phone battery in the freezer would "recondition" it. Came back two days later, put it in the phone, and it swelled up so bad it popped the screen right off. Your lava lamp description is painfully accurate though. Family always means well but sometimes their tech advice is stuck in 2005. Hope that Dell wasn't your daily driver.

Read an article once that said freezing batteries can damage the internal structure, @blake_black47, so your buddy learned that the hard way.
