My brother said my phone screen fix looked like a crime scene and I needed a heat gun
Two months back I tried to swap the cracked screen on my Galaxy A14 using just a hair dryer and a guitar pick, and it was a total mess. My brother is the one who fixes phones for people around Dayton and he watched me for like five seconds, then said my work looked like a crime scene and asked why I was cooking the phone instead of heating it. I got mad at first because who wants to hear that, but he was right, the hair dryer was never hot enough and I was prying way too hard. So I dropped $28 on a cheap heat gun and a suction cup and did the next phone the right way, slowly warming the edges and letting the adhesive get soft. The screen came off in one piece with no cracked glass flying everywhere and the new one went down flat with no bubbles. I have done three phones since then with zero damage and I will never touch a hair dryer again for this. Has anyone else had somebody call out their technique and it turned out to be the best thing that happened to their repairs?
Is a heat gun really that big of a deal though? People have been melting adhesive with worse tools for years and their phones still work fine (mostly).
