Finally got my old PS3 to stop overheating after a weekend of trying
Three years ago I gave up on it, but last week I opened it up in my garage and replaced the thermal paste for the first time. The fan is quiet now and it runs for hours. Anyone have a good guide for cleaning the power supply vents next?

Did you get all the dust out of the heatsink fins too? That's usually the real killer. For the power supply, iFixit has a teardown with pictures that shows exactly which screws to remove. Just go slow when you unplug the board connectors, those plastic clips are old and brittle now.

Ever think about using a soft paintbrush for the really stuck dust in the fins?

Paintbrush trick works great. Just make sure it's completely dry or you'll make a mess (learned that one the hard way).
