Dropped my phone in a puddle at the Seattle farmers market last Saturday and the rice trick nearly fried the charging port
Had to crack it open myself with a spudger and some isopropyl alcohol to clean the corrosion off the pins, has anyone else had better luck just using silica gel packets instead of rice?

Tossed mine in a bag of silica gel overnight and it worked way better than rice ever did.

Man I remember reading something from a guy who repairs electronics for a living and he said silica gel is actually way better than rice because rice dust can get in the ports and cause more problems later. He said the isopropyl alcohol trick is the real key though, you gotta use 90% or higher or it leaves residue behind. I bet those silica packets you find in shoe boxes work just fine if you toss a bunch of them in a sealed bag with the phone overnight. The main thing is to power it down completely and don't plug anything in until you're sure it's bone dry inside.
