The $3 shelf bracket that outdid my $40 monitor arm mount

I was stuck with a wobbly monitor arm from a yard sale in Tucson, so I tried a wooden shelf bracket from the hardware store as a desk clamp instead. Took about 45 minutes to sand and bolt it to the back edge, using two C-clamps I already had for stability. That thing holds my 27 inch screen rock solid, no sag even when I bump the desk. Has anyone else rigged up a non-traditional mount that beat the proper gear?
