One comment about my monitor arm mount changed my whole setup
A guy on here told me my cheap clamp was flexing too much, so I spent $14 on a 3/4 inch plywood spacer to distribute the load under my IKEA desk, and now my 27 inch screen doesn't wobble when I type, anyone else fix a weak desk edge with scrap wood?
Man, I used to roll my eyes at stuff like this and figure a monitor arm is only as good as the desk you clamp it to, so why bother upgrading the arm if the desk is the weak link. Your post made me change my mind on that, because a $14 piece of plywood is way smarter than dropping $150 on a heavy duty arm when the real problem is the desk edge bending. I had the same wobble issue and kept blaming my cheap arm, then I tightened everything twice and it still shook. Spreading the load across a wider area just makes sense now that I see someone actually do it. Scrap wood under the clamp is such a simple fix and I have some leftover 3/4 inch from a shelf project sitting in my garage right now.
