My PVC pipe cable management system collapsed after 6 months
I built a cable management tray out of PVC pipes and zip ties back in March, thinking it would be a cheap and easy solution. It worked great at first, but last Tuesday I sat down and heard a loud crack. The whole thing gave way, sending my power strip and cables crashing onto the floor. The PVC had gotten brittle from the heat in my garage office, and the zip ties just snapped. I spent the next hour untangling everything and patching up a frayed cable on my monitor. Now I am thinking about using metal conduit or even a wooden trough instead. Has anyone else had PVC fail on them like this in a warm room?

It's like those cheap plastic storage bins they sell at the big box stores, you know the ones that crack if you even look at them wrong, they just can't handle any real heat or pressure over time. I've seen this with all sorts of plastic stuff in garages and sheds, the sun and temperature swings just make them fall apart after a few months even if they look fine at first. Metal conduit or a wooden trough would definitely hold up better since they don't get weak from the heat like that.

I just swapped the plastic ones out for old wooden wine crates a few years back and they're still going strong. Zero cracks, even after sitting in a hot shed all summer.
