My buddy swore I was crazy for not using a level on my desktop

He said just lay a straight board across and shim it, and after 8 months of wobbly mouse movements I finally tried it with a scrap 2x4 and some felt pads. Has anyone else had a hack they ignored forever that actually fixed a simple problem?

Pretty sure your buddy was right from the start though. A level is the best tool for spotting a true flat surface, and shimming with a board is basically the same idea but faster. Fighting with a wobbly mouse for 8 months is rough when a quick fix was sitting right there the whole time.

Have you read that thing about how even small wobbles can mess with your aim in games? @the_jordan's point makes sense, a quick shim fixes it way faster than messing with desk leveling.
